Object: Pen and Pad of Paper
Theme: God will hear and answer when you call
on him.
Scripture: Psalm 54:2
Lesson:
Once there was a little girl who loved to be around people and
talk to them. She'd talk their ear off if they'd let her. But one day,
as she was riding her bike, she hit a pothole and went flying over the
handlebars and landed hard, breaking her jaw. (Or you could use a
skiiing illustration during the winter.) At the hospital, the doctors
had to wire it shut so it could heal. That meant that she couldn't talk
or move her jaw for several weeks. Theme: God will hear and answer when you call
on him.
Scripture: Psalm 54:2
Lesson:
If she couldn't talk, how could she communicate with others? (Show the pen and paper.) One of the ways she could "talk" to others was to write out what she wanted to say on a piece of paper and let the person read it. They could then respond and she could write some more. It wasn't easy for her to have to write everything out, but she was still glad she could share with others.
(Write the words "God will hear and answer when you call on him" on the paper. See if the children can guess what you wrote. Give them some hints and then show them the paper.)
You couldn't guess what I wrote until I gave you some hints and showed it to you. Even though God knows what you are thinking, he still wants you to ask and talk to him about it.
When it comes to talking with God, it isn't always easy. For one , you can't see God and he doesn't answer back out loud. He still wants you to communicate with him and we call talking with God, prayer. God wants you to talk with him just like you do with your best friend. Even though you can't see him, he is there and does hear your prayers. The Bible tells us that God hears our prayers and listens to the words we say. (Psalm 54:2) If Jesus is your Savior, whenever you see a pad of paper and a pen, remember that God will hear and answer when you call on him.
