- Ahead of time select an object you will “measure” for the lesson.
- As you start the lesson, hand out the bogus rulers to several older children. Have them measure the item and tell you how long it is and then measure the item using a real ruler.
- Ask the group why the measurements all came out different. Show them the bogus rulers and explain that they were not made by following a set standard. The numbers are right and the number of lines between each number is correct, but the lines were placed haphazardly.
- Because they didn’t follow a set standard, they are different with each ruler. When measuring something it is important to make sure the ruler is made following the proper standard.
- People think there are many different standards you can use to determine how you will behave. BUT, in reality, there is only one standard, one place, to go to find out what the truth is. That place is the Bible.
- God’s Word tells you that God wants you to live in a way that is right and it tells you what that way is. God tells us in Deuteronomy 6:18 that He wants you to do what is right and good in the LORD’s sight. He then gives a promise to those who follow the verse—that it may go well with you.
- That means that if you do what’s right, no matter what happens to you, it will work out for your good. If Jesus is your Savior from sin, God wants you to choose to do what’s right. Will you accept the challenge?
